Project
Volvo distribution truck

Brief: Fuel cell powered distribution truck for goods at controlled temperature.

The on site observation showed loading/unloading is the main activity, rather than driving.

With very frequent (un)loading operations, come very frequent parking manoeuvres and egress/ingress actions. The cabin is designed to make it all easy, safe and time efficient.
The tail features a rather standard lift and hatch, to deliver to companies equipped with a loading bay. The largest part of the container is an elevator, accessible from each side. This complete setup helps delivering to downtown shops and restaurants along any street side.
The main proportions were dictated by the functional issues, but the design is based on the graphical treatment of the lines and split lines, enhanced by the colour contrasts.
The model confirms a compact impression, with modern graphics expressing a machine-like efficiency rather than conventional speed.
